January 28, 2010
On Monday 25th January at 6p.m. the Kingston college Fashion and Design Students played host to the 17 athletes from Special Olympics Surrey that they will be working with for the next 6 months. Everyone was very excited. It will be the students first time that they. as designers. will be dealing with people with a learning disability.
The idea of the project is for people to look beyond the disability that people have and accept them for what the can give to society.
All athletes had to go to the College with information such as what was their favourite colour, what sort of music they liked. do they like dressing casual or smart in a suit.
Each athlete will have three designers and week one was just getting to know each other. The designers will produced an outfit which will shown on the cat walk at the closure of the year one students acadamic year.
Picture one shows Rebecc Giddy from Suribton with her designers Christina Su and Orla Lyons-Hamilton - then we have a group picture and picture three is Philip Jordan from New Malden with his designers Candice Wakenall, Chris Johnson and Mathew Griffin.
Sue Frett and Gaye Barber of SOS/SOGB put this project together and they commented that everyone was so excited and now the project has started it is wonderful. National Grid have sponsored the buying of all the material for the projext which is wonderful. We are looking to bring other sponsors on board and they project gains momentum.
