Surrey Regional Ten Pin Bowling Championships
October 8, 2008
65 athletes belonging to Special Olympics GB came to the Charrington Bowl on Sunday 5th October for the Surrey Regional Championships which had been organised by Special Olympics Surrey. They travelled from Greater London, East and West Susex and Kent. The Surrey teams The Red Hot Roller, The Pussy Cats and the Tigers did exceptionally well by winning catergory one and took Gold, Silver and Bronze team awards. The Teams from Kent won Gold Silver and Bronze in category two. These championships are the gateway to the Special Olympics National Championships in Leiecester 2009 were the Surrey Squad will be playing in singles, doubles and team events. This will be the first time that a county squad has been taken to any National Games. Sue Frett, the Branch Secretary for SOS stated that the fundraising is going well for the 25-man squad that will be going which will includes 18 athletes, coaches, and carers. Kingston Boys Club, Kingston Rotary, Kingston Round Table No 19, The Bentall Trust, Young Kingston have all sponsored athletes so far and Follow Your Dream are also on board. We can't thank them enough. To experience of living in an Olympic Village with 3,500 is going to be something very special. Lets hope that sosme of them make it to the World Games in Athens in 2011.
